Circle paintings

I’m experimenting with color combinations in these spun watercolor paintings. A series of large foliage paintings is underway, and it’s nice to have these quick abstracts as a break or a warm up. Circles, suns and moons have been all through my sketchbooks lately, and I recently watched a video about about ensō – zen circle paintings, and checks out artwork by Jeffrey Simmons, Angela Lane and others.

10 years ago we rigged up a fan to make spin paintings, inspired by Sarah Gee. Currently I’m using a lazy susan – more control, a little less excitement.
